Chapter 15

My body is deliciously sore. I smile, thinking of the reason: Parker’s cock. The ache between my thighs makes me wince, reminding me of the best shower sex I’ve ever had. Colt’s sour mood and salty expression is a bonus, the perfect retaliation for all the bullshit he’s put me through.

I sip my coffee with a satisfied grin, watching Colt stomp around the kitchen like a toddler throwing a tantrum. I snicker as he slams the drawer closed. Shaking my head, I glance over and find Parker leaning against the doorframe wearing a similar amused expression.

“You always were overly dramatic,” Parker says.

Colt turns, his movements slow and steady, like a snake ready to attack. His rage is practically another entity in the kitchen. I don’t know what they’ve been arguing about, but I know what will help calm him down. Giving him control.

My smile slips. Memories from that night at Waves step forward. The snake and spider I thought I saw. The tattoo on Colt’s forearm. How did I not realize that I don’t know what Colt’s gifts are? Or what his magical signature is?

While deep in thought, the guys continue their banter, but I can’t focus on them. Until one thing gets my attention. Colt’s fatally calm tone.

“Fuck you.”

Damn it. He is about to do something stupid. “Colt, when do you want to leave?” I ask, attempting to sip my coffee. But my hands are shaking too much so I give up and set it on the table.

“Today.”

I roll my eyes at his one word answer as Kaito comes barreling down the hallway. Opening my arms, he launches himself into them. I hug him close, his nearness instantly soothing me.

“Who’s this?” Parker asks, leaning over me and petting the fox.

“This is Kaito, my familiar.”

Kaito nuzzles into his hand before bolting off my lap and heading over to Colt, rubbing his tail and body along his legs. Sipping my coffee, I shake my head at the little traitor. Ever since we got here, he has stayed corporal longer and always seems to be right under Colt. Not that I blame him. I have seen him sneak Kaito food when they both think I’m not looking.

“He’s adorable,” Parker says, pulling out the chair across from me and flopping down.

“Don’t get too comfortable,” Colt says, side-eyeing him.

Parker just gives him a grin which has me smiling. His hair is in a bun at the base of his neck. The few strands of loose curls hanging in his face give him a youthful, almost boyish, look. But then I remember last night. I fan my heated face, looking anywhere but at the guys. I’m so consumed by them both, I know I won’t be able to avoid them for long.

“So, do you have a familiar?” I find myself asking. I don’t know what it is about Parker, but every time we are together all I want to do is find out more about him.

“Yeah. Lennox,” he answers casually enough. But then he adds, “He’s a grizzly.
